Leon Aiken
1925-2014
Our dear husband, father, and grandfather passed away December 22, 2014, surrounded by loving family. He was the youngest of 13 children born to Mary Gudmundson and Charles Henry Aiken on May 20, 1925, in Springville, UT. He grew up in a hard-working family and carried that work ethic to the end. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem, where he played basketball and football. He enjoyed golf and was a long time member of the Riverside Country Club in Provo. He was a member of Rotary International and loved watching BYU sports. Upon high school graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines, becoming an Officer during WWII. He married Betty Gray, August 8, 1945, in the Logan Temple. Together they raised six children in a close-knit family leaving behind a legacy of many happy memories.
Leon worked in the Dairy business, becoming a manager of Cream O' Weber Dairy and as an Insurance Agent for Farmer's Insurance. After Betty passed away, Leon found happiness again when he met and married Lianne Gibson, March 19, 1987, in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed 27 years together.
Leon was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and he loved the Lord and serving Him and his fellow men. He served in Bishoprics and as a Branch President. He loved reading and studying the Book of Mormon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brothers and sisters, his wife, Betty, son, Terry, and son-in-law, Sam Kershaw. He is survived by his wife, Lianne, children, Cheryl (Phil) Glenn, Nan (Ross) Gardner, Larry (Kathy) Aiken, Chris (Steve) Neidig, Deana (Dick) Wilkinson, Step-children, Ted (Lisa) Alexander, Phillip Alexander, Stephanie (Gordon) Fleming, 26 Grandchildren, 49 Great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and brother, Chet (Nadine) Aiken.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 29, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood 2nd Ward, 2080 E. 5165 S. Holladay, UT. A visitation prior to the service will be held from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. Online condolences www.serenityfhs.com.
