Service Projects for 2018
- The Utah Refugee Connection is in serious need of more backpack/back-to-school kits. When CeliAnne saw this request on Monday, her thought was "the pioneers were refugees too." So on Tuesday, as part of her family's July 24th celebration, they put together 20 backpacks.
- Now we're giving you all a chance to help. If you can contribute $ for supplies, please give to one of the Relief Society Presidency or Camille Baker by Sunday July 29th. We'll shop on Monday the 30th, then assemble and deliver on Wed. Aug 1. Another option --if you want to purchase backpack supplies, you could bring them to book group on Tuesday night. Thanks for your help, The Relief Society Presidency.
- Two people to volunteer at the cannery this Friday, August 10th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to can corn.
Service Projects for 2017
- Tuesday, March 14th will be our next Relief Society activity. There will be mini classes to learn empanada making from Daniela Anderson, to make decoupaged Easter eggs, and to assemble lunches for preschool children at the Midvale family homeless shelter. It will be at 7:00 pm at the church. Please bring any rolling pins you have!
- We need volunteers to clean the temple on Monday, May 1st, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Please contact a member of the Relief Society Presidency if you are interested! Thanks!
- There is an opportunity to serve at the dairy at Welfare Square packaging food on Thursday, August 3rd from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please talk to CeliAnne if you are interested.
- There is an opportunity to fulfil a welfare assignment packaging cheese on Thursday, September 14th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Please talk to CeliAnne if you are interested.
- The following is from the Stake in November 2017: Dear Relief Society Sisters, This next year (2018) our youth are going on Pioneer Trek! We have a committee of sewers who along with sewers from each ward will be going to the wards and helping each of your Young Women make a skirt, a bonnet and an apron to wear on Trek. We are attempting to this in the true spirit of pioneering and do it all with "gleened" fabric! Meaning---we are seeking fabric and notion donations from you. So, look around and see if you can help us out. If you are a quilter or sewer you're probably guilty of hoarding. Maybe just a little? Some of those bolts of fabric that you don't love anymore could go on trek with your Stake! We are looking for cottons in small prints, checks, or stripes. You know those mauve striped tablecloths from your daughter's wedding in the 80's? That fabric would be so much happier in a skirt on pioneer trek than in your "maybe I might need this someday" stash! Today is that day! We are also looking for border or retro print pillowcases---these make simple and adorable pioneer aprons! And, any trim big enough to go on a bonnet or apron would be appreciated. Especially grosgrain ribbon in any increments larger than 1 yard. Or---if you love thrifting at the many used shops in the Valley---here's a chance to shop for us. Look for bottom sheets and wonderful pillowcases that look a little 'pioneerish". We'll have a Facebook page soon; and won't it be a kick to see one of the young gals in the stake wearing your curtains on trek!!! Please just drop donations on the front porch of 5255 Cottonwood Club Drive. Or, call Jennifer West and I will come and pick them up.
